在使用(a) part of …时,of之后的名词若是单数,通常谓语也就视为单数,同样,of之后的名词若是复数,通常谓语也视为复数.

A part of the passengers were injured in the accident

由“some of，plenty of，a lot of，lots of，most of，the rest of，all of，half of，part of，the remainder of或分数、百分数+of+名词”等短语作主语时，谓语动词常与of后的名词保持数的一致。

如：

Parts of the book are very instructive．

The rest of the lecture is dull．

Half of the apple is rotten．这个苹果的一半腐烂变质了。

Half of the apples are rotten．这些苹果有一半腐烂变质了。

About one third of the books are worth reading.大约三分之一的书值得一读。

Over 30％ of the students were absent from the meeting

一、含义相同，意为＂部分＂，用作单数时，常不用冠词a,如：We spent part of our holiday in France.我们期一段时间是在法国度过的．二、含义不同，a part of 意为……的一部分; part of意为成员.如：We'd like you to feel your're part of the family.希望你能感到像一家人一样．a part of a body 身体的一部分．主要就这两种用法，若要更详细的用法见《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》Ｐ1068－1069.

therestof+不可数名词+动词单数（is）例如：Therestofthebreadwasthrownaway.（接不可数名词bread,谓语用单数形式was） therestof+复数名词+动词复数（are）例如：Therestofthestudentsareabsent（缺席的,不在的）.（接可数名词复数形式Students,谓语动词用复数形式are） “therestof”都表示“其余剩下的”。rest是休息的意思，但是没有restof.
